Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey poster goes viral ahead of its release

A mysterious poster for Christopher Nolan’s much-awaited film The Odyssey has gone viral after fans spotted it at an AMC theatre in Los Angeles. The film is set to release in theatres on July 17, 2026, but it’s already creating a wave of excitement online. The poster features a sculpture-like image, possibly a statue, with glowing embers floating above it in a dark, minimal background. The bold tagline, “Defy the Gods,” has caught everyone’s eye and has started serious buzz on social media. Fans are loving the simple yet powerful style.
One fan on Reddit said the poster reminded them of Oppenheimer, another Nolan-directed hit that won several awards. “It’s very minimalist, kind of like Oppenheimer,” they wrote. “Even the font looks similar.” While some say it looks familiar, others are calling it “instantly iconic.”

Christopher Nolan the Odyssey

The Odyssey is based on Homer’s famous ancient Greek poem, written over 2,000 years ago. It tells the story of Odysseus, a Greek hero who tries to return home after the Trojan War. The journey is long and full of challenges, both human and supernatural. The film will be the first-ever adaptation of the poem shown in IMAX, promising a visually grand experience.

The movie stars Matt Damon as Odysseus. This will be Damon’s fourth film with Nolan, after Interstellar, The Departed, and Oppenheimer. The cast also includes top stars like Tom Holland, Zendaya, Mia Goth, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, and John Leguizamo.

Fans can expect the official first-look poster to drop next week, during the screenings of Jurassic World Rebirth, which stars Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey. The Odyssey is being directed and written by Christopher Nolan himself, and he’s also producing it with Emma Thomas under their company Syncopy.

With a star-studded cast, a powerful story from ancient literature, and Nolan behind the camera, The Odyssey is already one of the most talked-about films, even a year before its release.
