The first song of Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s much-anticipated Coolie has arrived in electrifying style. Titled Chikitu, the vibrant track sees composer-singer Anirudh Ravichander stepping in front of the camera to dance alongside the song’s co-vocalist actor-director T Rajendar. Penned by rapper-lyricist Arivu—who also adds his distinctive voice—the song blends foot-tapping beats with playful wordplay, perfectly capturing the celebratory spirit of the film.
Sun Pictures, under Kalanithi Maran’s banner, unveiled a brief teaser clip announcing the single’s drop and revealing the Hindi title Majadoor, a move that sparked a wave of reactions from fans keen to see how the film’s core themes translate for North Indian audiences. This announcement follows the earlier release of “Powerhouse Vibe,” another high-voltage track showcasing Anirudh and Arivu’s dynamic partnership.

An Ensemble of Industry Icons
Beyond Rajinikanth’s magnetic presence, Coolie boasts an impressive supporting cast. Veteran actor Satyaraj reunites with the Superstar after their last on-screen pairing in the 1986 drama Mr. Bharath, while Malayalam star Soubin Shahir and Kannada powerhouse Upendra bring new textures to the narrative. Telugu legend Akkineni Nagarjuna is also on board in a pivotal role, adding pan-Indian appeal to the project. Shruti Haasan stars opposite Rajinikanth for the first time, injecting fresh chemistry into the story, and there are high-profile cameos from Pooja Hegde and Aamir Khan, whose surprise appearances promise to be crowd-pleasers.
Behind the scenes, the film’s technical squad reads like a who’s who of South Indian cinema. Cinematographer Girish Gangadharan—celebrated for his work on Karnan and Jallikattu—frames each action sequence with visceral energy, while editor Philomin Raj, fresh off the success of Doctor, ensures the pacing never lags. Stunt duo Anbariv choreographs gravity-defying fight scenes that are bound to become viral sensations.

Lokesh’s Vision and the Road to August 14
With Coolie, Lokesh Kanagaraj ventures into uncharted territory, blending the larger-than-life persona of Rajinikanth with his trademark gritty realism and layered storytelling. Co-writers Lokesh and Chandhru Anbazhagan (who also handled additional screenplay duties) have crafted a narrative that balances pulse-pounding action with moments of genuine humor and heart. Early glimpses hint at a story that pays homage to the classic ‘coolie’ archetype—an everyman hero pitted against overwhelming odds—while injecting the trademark stylistic flourishes that have made Lokesh’s previous films cult favorites.
